Our city and campus

While studying architecture and design, you will experience first-hand the benefits of the investments in Birmingham.

For our students and graduates, being at the heart of such a vibrant and exciting city provides both inspiration and career opportunities.

We actively support students across all courses to undertake industry based projects and work. We work alongside industry within initiatives such as CO.LAB and KTP, and we are renowned for our graduates' employable.

Our graduates

work for companies such as Associated Architects, Birmingham City Council and Glenn Howells Architects.

You will have the opportunity to experience working on exciting new developments which are changing the face of our city, and also how our students learn. BA students have recently been given the opportunity to visit the site of the second phase of our City Centre Campus development, working alongside constructors Willmott Dixon.

Our city boasts many of the UK’s most striking and contemporary buildings. Mecanoo’s £188 million Library of Birmingham is a recent winner of the RIBA award, and is now in the running for a Sterling Award. Other buildings of recent note include Ken Shuttleworth’s The Cube and the Bull Ring Shopping Centre (Benoy).

Birmingham also plays host to regular festivals that celebrate architecture and the city’s landscape, including the Birmingham Architecture Festival, RIBA West Midlands’ Love Architecture Festival and Still Walking.

From an art deco cinema (The Electric, the UK’s oldest working cinema) to Gothic and Edwardian and Brutalist architecture, and a constant updating of the city’s landscape, there is something new for our students to gain inspiration from around every corner.

Birmingham Made Me

The Birmingham Made Me Design EXPO is the Midland’s most important annual celebration of the design-led manufacturing capabilities and achievements in and from the region.

Every year the City hosts the five-day celebration of design, gathering together world-class businesses and leaders from the transport and automotive, health, consumer, education, renewables, digital and new media industries.

Birmingham's arts and fashion sector delivers a lively cultural scene for residents and visitors, as well as playing a significant role in the city's economy.

Providing a combination of events, demonstrations, performances and displays, the Expo showcases the region’s innovations and successes, linking emerging talent and entrepreneurship into business.
