Changes to Postgraduate Law Courses

The pathway to the legal profession is changing.

As of August 2021 you will no longer be able to complete an accredited Common Professional Exam course, such as those previously ran by the School of Law at Birmingham City University:

  • Postgraduate Diploma in Law (PGDL)
  • LLM Professional Law

These courses were postgraduate conversion courses for students with a non-law undergraduate degree. As a consequences of the professional body changes, this stage is no longer available.

Instead you will be required to complete both stages of the new Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE). The School of Law are currently in the process of designing our SQE offering, so if you are interested in hearing more about the course once it is approved, please send your contact details to our Course Administrator, Safia - LawAdministration@bcu.ac.uk
