Why You Should Study Health Sciences in Birmingham

Looking at studying a degree in health sciences? There are plenty of reasons why you should study it here in Birmingham. Below are a few reasons why.

Real research

Birmingham City University's health and life sciences research teams work directly with the industry, including NHS trusts, sports teams and health charities to improve patient care and outcomes for both patients and athletes. The research we conduct is very much real, giving the chance for students to experience what awaits them in the industry when they graduate. You can have a look through our research projects to see the variety of investigations we conduct. You can view our various research projects and keep up to date with them by viewing them here.

Facilities

We don’t like to brag, but we do believe our facilities are home to the best equipment you can find. You will have access to some of the most advanced training and education facilities available which you can also hire if you are a health care provider or have a related business. You can find out more about our facilities here.

Placements and work experience

Our courses give students the chance to complete work experience and placements. We know how important these opportunities are and the majority of our courses will allow you to put your academic and class-based work into practice-based settings with real patients or clients.

You can head over to our 'Placements' page to read more about the work opportunities our students have.

You will also have the opportunity to go on plenty of trips and visits to relevant places, such as Queen Elizabeth Hospital, home to the largest critical care unit in Europe.

Careers

Students who study health sciences go into multiple careers in the industry. Our courses will enable you to be ready for whatever health sciences career you desire, this could be anything between an operating theatre manager, to a paramedic.

Our I AM BCU student stories from our health sciences courses cover different student achievements and how studying with us has allowed them to move further into their chosen area of the industry. Check out Savannah's or Jamie's stories.

Our degrees don’t necessarily mean you have to go into a career where you will have patients. Our courses can also equip you with the right qualifications for jobs such as teaching or personal training. Read more about careers in health sciences.
