Short course
Assertiveness at Work (Dealing with Difficult Situations)
Overview
This workshop provides a practical framework and a set of proven techniques to help participants communicate clearly, confidently, and constructively in challenging workplace situations.
Assertiveness is not an innate trait, but a learned skill built on self-awareness, emotional control, and respect for others. The programme begins by developing an understanding of emotional intelligence and assertiveness theory, enabling participants to recognise their own behavioural patterns and respond more effectively under pressure.
Participants will learn how to balance confidence with empathy—moving away from passive, aggressive, or manipulative responses—and towards assertive behaviours that maintain positive working relationships while achieving results.
Participants will learn to:
-
Understand their own emotional responses and behavioural tendencies
-
Recognise assertive, passive, and aggressive communication styles
-
Manage emotional responses to remain calm and in control in difficult situations
-
Handle criticism and give constructive feedback
