The course focuses on the theoretical aspect of immunisations and vaccinations in line with the UKHSA National minimum standards and core curriculum for vaccination training (2025).

To ensure the ongoing delivery of a high quality, safe and effective immunisation programme that achieves high uptake, it is important that all practitioners involved in immunisation have a comprehensive level of knowledge and are confident in immunisation policy and procedures. This course aims to develop knowledge and capabilities within immunisations.

  • Provide accurate and up-to-date information about the relevant diseases and vaccines to patients, parents, and carers.

  • Support individuals to make informed decisions about vaccination.

  • Promote public confidence in vaccination.

  • Improve the uptake of immunisation.

  • Know where to request expert specialist advice if required.

Who would benefit?

This course is intended for health practitioners new to their area requiring an update, health practitioners who give advice, and health practitioners who wish to update on the topics covered in the foundation course.

If you are a new practitioner or beginning to administer immunisations, you are advised to obtain a mentor in practice. This is in line with the recommendations made UKHSA National minimum standards and core curriculum for vaccination training (2025).

Course in depth

This course focuses on the theoretical aspects of immunisations and vaccinations. The practice of administration technique is supported by your employer. There will be an opportunity to talk to experienced nurses and look at case studies related to immunisations.

The course will run over two days with live teaching and time for questions and discussion. The tutors will direct the learner to further actions and steps required, and an additional e-learning platform is used to consolidate learning and to test knowledge.
