Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) Undergraduate Dissertation Award – Knowledge Management

Combining hands-on work with his studies gave ambitious sponsored student, Ryan Taylor, real insight into the way modern knowledge management works. No wonder he’s making such a success of his career….

An award-winning dissertation
Ryan’s incisive dissertation really impressed the judges. It looked at how an international built asset consultancy could sharpen its competitive edge by using modern communication technology to improve the knowledge of its people.

Sponsorship – a route Ryan recommends
Ryan joined EC Harris Built Asset Consultancy as a sponsored student – and he’s still building his career there. It’s a route that he sees a lot of advantages in:
“With rises in tuition fees, it would be sensible for students to try and undertake a part-time course with sponsorship from a company,” he says. “I have gained a degree with no student debt hanging over my head with the added benefit that you learn and experience a great deal more from working with experts in the industry on a daily basis.”

The next steps
It’s clearly worked for Ryan, who has a bright future ahead of him at EC Harris and is already on his way to becoming a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
