Paul has worked in health care since 2003, starting his career as a HCA and naturally followed the Nursing path and became a registered Nurse in 2008.

Paul has worked in a variety of clinical settings within the NHS, including Renal Transplant, Acute Gastrointestinal and Emergency Care.

He spent 2 years working within a Practice Placement Team, supporting student placements and development, as well as educating/supporting practice mentors and assessors.

Paul was one of the UK first Sepsis Nurses and was tasked in delivering, evidencing and reporting the improved recognition and treatment of sepsis for the Trust. In 2013 Paul founded the UK Sepsis Nurse Forum, later to become UK Sepsis Practitioner Forum (UKSPF). Supported by The UK Sepsis Trust and NHS England (Patient Safety). UKSPF now has over 180 members representing their Trusts and organisation all over the UK.

The Sepsis Nurse position was later to become a duel role within the Deteriorating Patient & Resuscitation team, where he became a Resuscitation Officer (Sepsis Lead). In this role Paul became an Advanced Paediatric Life Support (APLS) Provider and Advanced Life Support instructor (Adult). Teaching a variety of advanced life support course, Sepsis recognition and management to doctors, nurses and the wider MDT.

After 6 years in this role Paul had the opportunity to lead a team in Pre/Post and Non registration education for the Trust. As the Lead for the Nursing and Midwifery Clinical Education Team Paul and his Team supported HCA development, Nursing Associate Programme, Pre-registration Nurses and Midwives placements and development as well as post registration courses such as catheterisation and cannulation. Whilst in this role Paul integrated the introduction of the Standards for Student Supervision and Assessment (SSSA) and the COVID19 emergency standards for students in the Trust.

Paul has always had a strong passion for education and development of standards. He started at BCU in July 2020 teaching on pre-registration Nursing programmes where he is able to fulfil his passion to support and guide the future Nurse.
