After completing her degree at the University of Wolverhampton in early 2013, Paola worked as a full time midwife at her hospital of training- Dudley Group Foundation NHS Trust, gaining valuable experience in all areas of maternity care settings.  With her passion for teaching clearly evident early in her career, assisted with the completion of the SLAiP mentorship programme, Paola was appointed as Clinical Lead for the Band 5 Preceptorship programme at the Trust, leading a team of preceptors in the support, training and assessment of Band 5 midwives, to ensure the successful completion of set clinical skills and knowledge competencies and contributing to the development of assessment criteria.

As her career progressed, Paola developed a particular passion in the area of High Dependency Obstetric care, and became a core member of the HDU Team, gaining vast experience in the highest risk population of maternity patients and successfully completed an additional neonatal resuscitation course.

More recently, with a life-long focus and professional goal of becoming a midwifery academic, Paola qualified at Level 7 as ; a Newborn and Infant Physical Examination Practitioner; and a Professional Midwifery Advocate, now teaching in these modules at both under and post-graduate levels, as well as teaching on the long and short BSc (Hons) Midwifery programmes since beginning her journey with BCU in October 2019.

Paola continues to work clinically with an honorary contact at DGFT, and is passionate about remaining current in midwifery practice in order to better appreciate the ever-changing clinical and cultural issues faced by midwifery students.
