Vicki is a Senior Lecturer and the current Course Lead for BSc (hons) Diagnostic Radiography at Birmingham City University.  Vicki is a member of the BCU alumni, having completed her BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography at BCU between 2008-2011.  She achieved a First Class degree and was awarded the Student of Excellence accolade for achieving the highest average grade in her studies for her cohort.

Vicki has been a part of the teaching team for Diagnostic Radiography since joining BCU in 2014.  She is driven by an aim to provide high standards of education and support for our undergraduate students.  Vicki teaches predominantly at Level 5, with a particular focus on patient care and pathways, clinical imaging protocols, and radiographic technique.  She is module leader for a 20 credit Level 5 module titled Diagnostic Imaging Practice 1 which encourages the students to apply anatomy, physiology and technological knowledge to a range of pathologies and modalities.  She also assists with teaching across the course, particularly in our onsite Skills facilities during workshops.

Vicki is a personal tutor to both BSc and Foundation Year students.  This part of my role enables me to support students both whilst out on placement and at university, and also allows me to liaise with clinical staff to develop the experience for students when they are on site.  I have also undertaken a course on Advanced Personal Tutoring to develop further skills in this area for supporting students both academically and pastorally.

Prior to her current role, Vicki was the Clinical Placement Coordinator for the course which meant she was responsible for the allocation of placements to students, as well as the development and support of clinically-based assessments, clinical partnerships and a positive placement experience.  Vicki also chaired quarterly meetings with clinical staff to encourage a close and open relationship with our practice partners and to maintain a consistent approach towards assessing students.

Vicki is a HCPC registered Diagnostic Radiographer with a clinical background predominantly in plain radiography, theatre imaging, fluoroscopy in CT.  She is also proficient in Intravenous Cannulation.  Prior to starting at BCU, Vicki was working clinically full time as a Senior Radiographer in a local NHS Trust. Up until 2017, Vicki worked clinical hours on an ad hoc basis, providing support for weekend duties, enabling her to demonstrate current practice whilst teaching.  She also keeps up to date with developments in the profession and clinical environments through close working relationships with clinical partners, and continuous professional development activities.

Vicki has completed a Masters in Education in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education and has completed the first year of her Educational Doctorate.  Her research interests include student motivations, transitions and experience, alongside the political changes which impact on higher education, particularly in the health sector currently.  Vicki also holds a BA (hons) English from University of Wolverhampton.

Vicki is a member of the Society of Radiographers (SoR).

Vicki has recently undertaken training to become a Core Strengths™ Facilitator which allows teams to identity their core strengths and tools for success.  She is also a Mental Health First Aider.

Prior to working as a Radiographer and moving in to her post at BCU, Vicki worked with the finance sector, having prior experience in business, customer service and training whilst working in the Banking industry.
