A day in the life of a trainee teacher

Want to know what it's really like to be an education student at Birmingham City University? Our BA (Hons) Primary Education with QTS student Lewis shares his experience.

Lewis' story

Primary education - BA (Hons)

school of education and social work

Lewis has always loved working with children and, having done voluntary work and work experience at a school, he knew that he wanted to be a teacher. This course provided him with the best route to do just that.

He particularly enjoys the teaching placements at schools, where he gets to observe a variety of teaching and gain confidence in working with children. So far he has had two placements, enhancing his experience of all aspects of teaching, including planning lessons, leading activities and assessing children’s progress.

Lewis loves the great facilities that the University provides for and the vibrant, versatile and lively feel of our campuses. He also enjoys student life in Birmingham and has relished the chance to experience a big city, as well as meeting the wide range of people who live here.

Once Lewis finishes his degree he plans to go straight into a teaching job, staying within the Birmingham area that he has grown to love. Lewis hopes to gain as much teaching experience as he can and eventually become a headteacher.
