Education Facilities
Step inside the newly transformed Benjamin Zephaniah Building at our city centre campus. A £12 million refurbishment that brings the Department of Education to life in the heart of the city. In honour of the poet and activist Benjamin Zephaniah, the building reflects his legacy of creativity, empowerment, and inclusion, while offering spaces that prepare our students for the real-world challenges of teaching and education.
Science Lab
Inside, you’ll find bright, fully equipped science laboratories, designed for both primary and secondary education training. These labs provide a safe, hands-on environment where trainee teachers can develop the skills to bring science to life in the classroom. Whether planning an experiment or demonstrating practical STEM activities, the spaces mirror the kinds of settings our students will go on to teach in.
Product Design Lab
Our Product Design Lab is a dynamic, hands-on space where creativity meets innovation. Equipped with the latest tools and resources, the lab gives students the opportunity to prototype, model, and refine their ideas in a professional environment that reflects real-world design studios.
As part of your studies, you’ll use the Product Design Lab to explore practical approaches to teaching and learning, gaining experience in how design and technology can be brought to life in classrooms. The space encourages experimentation, collaboration, and problem-solving skills that are vital not only for educators but also for anyone preparing to inspire the next generation of makers and innovators.
Seminar Room
Our newly refurbished seminar rooms and general teaching spaces have been designed to encourage collaboration, group discussion, and active learning, with modern finishes and layouts that reflect the diversity of teaching methods our students will encounter in schools.
Breakout Space
With comfortable seating, natural light, and a layout that encourages collaboration, the Breakout Space is more than just somewhere to pause, it’s a place where ideas are shared, connections are made, and community thrives.
