Following requests from students, the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and the Built Environment (CEBE) has set up an International Student Buddy scheme. The aim of the project is to form a team of 20 awesome students of various nationalities in order to help international and non-UK students fully integrate with the University’s social and academic life.

What better way to launch this project than with a celebration event, finishing with a spectacular fireworks display for Bonfire Night?

100 tickets for the fireworks event at Edgbaston Cricket Ground on 5 November were made available to all international and non-UK CEBE students. The tickets sold out in just 2 days. Clearly indicating that students want and need this support, as well as to have some fun as part of their university experience. Students and staff from CEBE attended the event, which was organised by the Faculty’s Student Success Advisors. It was a great opportunity for international students to meet each other, explore the city, and experience some UK culture.

The new International Student Buddy Scheme offers:

  • Events every other week to promote global socialisation and the cultural heritage of different nationalities.
  • Larger events such as a visit to the German Market on 30 November and a trip to the Magical Lantern Festival at Birmingham Botanical Gardens on 16 December.

If you have any ideas for what the Buddy Scheme could do, or want to find out more about it, please do not hesitate to email Niky Szabo or call her on 0121 202 2433.
