Dr. Danilo Spinola serves as a Senior Lecturer in Economics at Birmingham City University (BCU), where he is also the academic lead on ethics within the College of Accounting, Finance, and Economics. His research delves into three primary areas: innovation, inequality, and sustainability. Holding a Ph.D. in the Economics of Innovation from the United Nations University-Maastricht Economic and Social Research Institute on Innovation and Technology (UNU-MERIT), Dr. Spinola has enriched his academic journey as a postdoctoral fellow at the same institution. Additionally, he possesses a Master of Research in Economics from the University of Campinas (UNICAMP).

Dr. Spinola's scholarly contributions include peer-reviewed articles in esteemed journals like Structural Change and Economic Dynamics, Review of Political Economy, Review of Keynesian Economics, and Metroeconomica. His expertise is further recognised through his editorial role at the Journal of Evolutionary Economics.

Beyond academia, Dr Spinola brings extensive experience as a consultant for international bodies, including the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the Interamerican Development Bank (IDB), and the Institute for New Economic Thinking (INET). His research primarily focuses on the intricacies of economic development, with a special interest in developing regions, blending empirical economic analysis (e.g. time series econometrics, panel data analysis) with theoretical model development within Keynesian and Evolutionary frameworks.

At BCU, Dr. Spinola leads modules such as Economics for Sustainable Development, Political Economy, Economic History, and Labour Economics and is a recognised Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). Stationed in the Curzon Building, room C213, he is keen on supervising PhD students whose research interests align with his areas of expertise.
