A medical scientist by undergraduate training, Sarahjane is now a health services researcher with a particular interest in quality and safety and the utilisation of routinely collected data for healthcare improvement.

Sarahjane is a senior research fellow and deputy director of the Centre for Social Care, Health and Related Research where she has a remit for increasing research capacity amongst the non-medical professions. She is an enthusiastic, innovative research leader in health services, with an interest in increasing research capacity through communities of practice in real world research projects and healthcare safety. She holds Senior Fellow status with Advance HE.

Sarahjane is the principle investigator of the three year, Health Foundation funded NuRS project which aims to explore the contributory factors underpinning nurse retention in healthcare in England and its impact on patient safety.

Sarahjane is committed to high standards of research integrity, including ethics, open access publishing and data, and the involvement of the public in research. She is currently Alternate Vice Chair of Edgbaston NHS Research Ethics Committee. She is responsible for University-wide delivery of data protection compliance for research-generated personal data and lead of the Faculty’s research compliance agenda. Sarahjane is also a member of the Faculty’s REF management group responsible for the delivery of the impact case studies for UoA 3 and 23.

Sarahjane has several key academic leadership responsibilities across the University. She is deputy director of the Centre for Social Care, Health and Related Research and the Faculty Academic Research Compliance Lead. She has line management responsibility for one full time research fellow, two full time research assistants and two part time research assistants

Sarahjane peer reviews for a number of international journals including the Journal of Advanced Nursing, British Medical Journal and the Internal Journal of Health Care Quality Assurance.
