Birmingham City Urban Design and their nine framework contractors jointly hosted a student excellence awards event at Baker Hall on the 18th of November.

A total of nine 'student of the year awards' were made across the HNC and all the undergraduate courses offered by Birmingham School of the Built Environment, plus the Architecture course run by BIAD. Further awards were presented for 'Resilence in Adversity' and the Postgraduate Student of the Year. The Awards were presented by Cllr Randal Brew, Prof. Mel Lees of BCU and Adrian Rowlands of Urban Design.

The HNC Student of the Year, Harvir Kalsi, commented “The Urban Design Awards shows the excellent connections Birmingham City University has with employers, signifying that even in this economic climate, with hard work, there are still jobs to be found, the awards bring great encouragement to those who consistently work hard and demonstrates the University and its partners will show recognition where deserved.”

The Postgraduate Student of the Year, Richard Tole commented "The Urban Design Awards event was extremely well organised with an impressive list of supporting parties. I felt particularly honoured that such a formal occasion included individual citations for each award winning student. It was evident that the dignitaries present took the event seriously and were keen to interact with the students after the formal ceremony ended"

Ken Crawford, Associate Head of Birmingham School of the Built Environment commented "congratulations to the students on their awards. The School offers its thanks to Urban Design for their continued support and we look forward to a fruitful working relatinship with their Framework partners. Thanks must also go to the staff in the School for their help behind the scenes in preparation for the event"
