The competition was intense - students had just 16 hours to put together the design, costs and project plan for the scheme. They then presented their ideas to a panel of industry professionals and faced tough questioning from the panel about the plan.

Nearly 20 teams from the US, Ireland and Australia took part in the competition.

Speaking about the competition experience, Matthew Roberts said: “I am very proud to win the competition as I have now been part of teams to win the UK and US ASC competitions. I particularly enjoyed the collaboration with our American partner team from Auburn University. The fast-paced working environment was a fantastic way to prove our ability to the judges and will no doubt serve us well in the future.

My studies will definitely be bolstered by this experience. Being presented with tough problems in regards to estimating and design challenges makes you think on your feet, which I'm sure will be of great use in industry.
