Nigel Stone

Nigel Stone is the senior technician for the wood-based materials workshop focusing on adaption and manipulation of this malleable material. His studies include Fine Art, Civil Engineering and Sustainability within the construction industry. This diverse combination of disciplines as enabled him to explore this material as a pliable organic structure with almost endless possibilities, ranging from rigid structural form through to free form bending of heated timber. He explores the probability that the materialism of the object is not bound by conformity and to encourage the viewer to question our perception of what we see and give these elements a new role by presenting them in a way that is unconventional. This questioning of the way we observe objects distorts our perception of every day and challenges the universal belief of our environment’s material reality.
