Struggling to decide on what course to choose at university? Here's how attending a Virtual Open Day can help you make your decision.
It can be really hard to decide which course to choose to study at university. There are lots of factors that go into choosing a degree - your future career aspirations, what you're good at, and most importantly, what you enjoy! So, how does a Virtual Open Day fit in with all of this? Let's run through a few ways our online Open Days can help you make this important decision.
1. You can enjoy a tailored and personalised experience
When you sign up, you'll be sent a link for your subject area of choice, where you'll find subject-specific talks, information, videos, live webinars and articles, so you'll be sure to find all the answers to the questions you have. There's also general talks and info for things like finance and accommodation.
2. You can research a few courses
Can't decide between a few areas or courses? This is the perfect way to do some in depth research and compare a few courses, hearing from academics who teach on the course and exploring what careers you could end up in depending on the course you choose.
3. You can take part in interactive, live sessions
We put on a wealth of live webinars where you can ask your questions and get them answered on the spot. These range from academic talks to accommodation and the Students' Union. You can also head to Instagram where our students will be answering your questions live.
4. You can meet lecturers and staff
From handy course overview videos from the staff who would be teaching you, to live Q+A sessions on the day covering subject-specific information and then more practical information (we even have a whole dedicated parent section to keep your mum and dad happy), getting to meet our friendly staff and ask them your burning questions is a great way to decide on the right course for you.
5. You can explore our facilities and take tours
Part of choosing your university course is ensuring the facilities you'd be using are up to scratch. From our computing labs to mock wards for Nursing students, you can find out everything you need to know about our £400 million facilities at our Virtual Open Day to ensure you'll be using the industry standard, preparing you for the world of work before you even graduate. And, yes, it might be a virtual day out, but you can still take tours! You're able to see our facilities, accommodation and facilities in our handy videos. You'll feel like you're there in person!

6. You can ask our students questions
As we mentioned earlier, head over to Instagram on our Virtual Open Day and you'll find our students answering questions and giving you their insights. You can ask them how they picked their courses, and what made them choose BCU (or where to get the best pizza in Brum, the choice is yours!).
7. You can ask about placements, careers and employability
An important part of choosing a course is figuring out what career options this opens up for you, and what the employability is like in that field. We have a Careers+ and Graduate+ team to help you build your skills, and at our Virtual Open Day you can chat to our Student Support team, as well as the relevant academics for your subject area, to find out about the options to get experience during your studies, and what careers alumni have gone on to.
8. You can replay the sessions
When you sign up and attend the Virtual Open Day, you'll then receive replay links so you can re-watch the sessions you attended. This really helps closer to the application deadline to make sure you're picking the right course and university, especially if you're attending a lot of Open Days around the same time.
9. You can find out about other services on offer to enhance your learning experience
Whether it's help with structuring your essays, referencing advice or just how to make the most of your time at university, you can find out more about those little extras that make all the difference at our Virtual Open Days. Our academics will explain how their roles are more than just teaching, and you can explore more of the library and student support services on offer.
10. You can find out what student life is like
Choosing your course is really important, but you need to be sure that you'll be happy with everything else that goes along with studying at university. Our student life panel gives you an insight into what it's like being a student at BCU, and you can also find out what makes Birmingham so great.
