One of China's most successful business leaders is to be awarded an honorary doctorate from Birmingham City University next week in recognition of his achievements in the financial services sector.

CEO of Everbright Investment since 2012 and an investment consultant to the City of Qingdao in China, entrepreneur Xiao Liu was also behind China's first high-tech industrial centre for robotics, the only one of its kind in the country.

Liu has also developed partnerships for the City of Qingdao with some of the world’s biggest names in business, including Swedish premium car manufacturer Saab and French aircraft manufacturer Airbus.

“I am delighted to receive this award from Birmingham City University and feel immensely proud”, said Liu.

Liu’s previous roles include managing Japanese textile company ITOCHU and serving at the Chinese Ministry of Transportation in the early years of his career.

Xiao Liu’s award ceremony takes place on the morning of Tuesday 1 September at Birmingham’s Symphony Hall. His award will be presented alongside students graduating from the University’s Faculty of Business, Law & Social Sciences.
