Josh carries the torch for the Games

On Wednesday 29th August, one of our current undergraduate students, Joshua Bentley took part in the Olympic torch relay through the streets of Westminster as part of the lead up to the London 2012 Paralympic Games. He was chosen to perform this honour following the charity fundraising work that he has done in recent years, part of which was through the volunteering scheme at Birmingham City Business School.

As part of the scheme, Josh visited Ghana last summer, where he taught local children, helped construct and paint buildings and visited an orphanage. Before the trip, he contacted local newspapers and ITV News to appeal for donations to take with him – resulting in Josh taking four suitcases of donated items and over £200 to Ghana.

Josh, who has also completed runs for charities close to his heart, hopes his activities are inspirational: “I am grateful for the opportunities I have had and I would recommend BCBS volunteering activities to anyone as a tremendous experience and a great way of making a difference.”

Well done Josh!
