HELS Go Abroad
Our students are going global
Approximately 70 students from the Faculty of Health, Education and Life Sciences received funding for a scholarship in 2017.
HELS Go Abroad is a flagship student overseas mobility programme offered by the Faculty of Health, Education and Life Sciences. Launched in 2016, the programme aimed to offer every HELS student an opportunity to work, volunteer or study abroad, even for a short period of time, as part of their course. In 2017, approximately 70 students from the Faculty of Health, Education and Life Sciences received funding to travel overseas.
The second edition of this exciting initiative has now been completed and a record number of 92 undergraduate students secured funding and travelled to 20 different countries around the World in 2018, including the USA, Canada, Peru, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Tanzania, Ghana, Uganda, Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, Bali, South Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam, the Netherlands, France, Spain, and Lithuania!
HELS Go Abroad does not only offer financial support in form of a HELS Go Abroad Bursary, but also a range of opportunities to undertake a high quality experience at one of our international partners. Some of the opportunities include Study Trips, Elective Placements, places on short-term Summer Programmes. Recently, a group of second year undergraduate nursing students went to the USA for two weeks and experienced the nursing education at the University of Pittsburgh, whilst a group of 13 second and third year nursing, midwifery and ODP students were given an opportunity to complete clinical observations in Vietnamese hospitals.
