Undergraduate Secondary Teaching Courses
We offer a range of undergraduate secondary teacher training courses in specialist subject areas. If you're passionate about developing your knowledge and skills in your own subject area but you also want to share your specialist subject area with young minds then teaching at secondary level is for you. You will need to be committed to ensuring your pupils reach their potential as they work towards qualifications that will affect their opportunities in life. Take a look at what Secondary pupils are looking for from you as their teacher:
What are the benefits of training to teach through an undergraduate degree?
- You will spend most of your time studying your specialist subject so, depending on which one is your area, you will develop a high level of skills and understanding in:
- Computer Science OR
- Biomedical Sciences OR
- PE and School Sport, and Exercise Science
- Through the School of Education and Social Work, you will have access to teaching specifically around teaching practice, professional standards and placements in a wide range of schools across your three years
- Usually, to qualify as a teacher in secondary schools you would have to take a three-year degree in the relevant subject area and then complete a one-year teacher training programme; so in total it would take four years. By choosing the three-year secondary education degree you save yourself a whole year of time and fees, as well as potentially the loans to cover the fees and living expenses compared to choosing the four-year route.
