FAQ's

What kind of business placement could I do?

Placements are available in a range of companies from SMEs, the public sector and blue-chip multinationals such as Xerox, Pfizer, Microsoft and IBM.

There is a wide choice. Some students choose to work in the local area, nearer home and some choose to work in other UK cities. International opportunities are also available.

Job roles can vary, but they generally cover the vital areas of marketing, HR, purchasing, finance, operations, logistics and research.

How do I find and secure a business placement?

Birmingham City Business School has been sourcing placements for students for over 15 years and has a dedicated placements office.

It is of course, your responsibility to find a placement, but the placements office is there to help you at all times – and to ensure you are familiar with the latest recruitment and selection techniques.

The office has two full-time staff that operate a friendly, helpful, walk-in service from 9am-5pm on weekdays. Placements staff have backgrounds in graduate recruitment and HR – and use that experience to support and advise you.

They develop links with organisations, advertise jobs, check and advise on CVs and application forms – and run mock interviews.

The office advertises around 1,000 jobs per year and has access to a database of over 1,000 companies.

Birmingham city university also runs a virtual learning environment called Moodle which is updated daily. Students have access to the password-protected system that provides the opportunity to:
