I AM BCU
We have a confident, proud and diverse community of students at Birmingham City Business School, who are striving to achieve their career goals and transform their lives. Read just some of their stories here.
Pravjoth Gill
Business Management - BA (Hons)
Pravjoth’s hemiplegia cerebral palsy meant it was important to her to attend a university that provides the support she needs. Her time at BCU has given her much more. She’s created her own online disability-focused fitness and nutrition company, produced two podcasts, and raises awareness about causes she is passionate about both in and outside of her university life.
Katy James
Business Economics with a Professional Placement - BA (Hons)
Despite struggling with her mental health and spending 15 months in hospital, Katy has excelled with a placement year at Tetley Tea. With the support of the careers and wellbeing teams at BCU every step of the way, she’s now looking forward to starting a Master’s.
Lauren Moult
Law - LLB
Lauren knew she wanted to be lawyer, so gaining work experience was key for her to break into the competitive legal sector. Volunteering at BCU’s Law Clinic has given Lauren the confidence and skills she needs to pursue her dream career.
Adriana Cahongo
Event, Venue and Experience Management - BA (Hons)
When Adriana was 18, she was diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder, but that doesn’t stop her excelling at university and getting involved with all the opportunities on our Events, Venue and Experience Management course.
Nile Dennis-Stephens
Finance and Investment – BSc (Hons)
Nile is the definition of determination. With his eyes set on a first class degree and a career in private equity, Nile is doing all he can to achieve his goals and inspire other Black Asian and minority ethnic students along the way.
Natalie Smith
Marketing - BA (Hons)
Natalie wasn’t sure whether she would fit in at university, as she lives at home while she studies and enjoys spending time with her family.
However, this hasn’t been the case… after changing her subject area, Natalie is flourishing studying marketing, and having finished second year, she is moving on to a year-long placement at Cross Country Rail.
Bright Ifeanyi
Marketing, Advertising & PR - BA (Hons)
After being out of education for five years, Bright knew it was the right time to return. Returning was one thing; but making the right choice was very important to him. Bright owns and run his own events company. His main goal is to use our marketing degree to bridge the gaps in his knowledge to take his business to the next level.
Chris Thrower
Marketing, Advertising and PR - BA (Hons)
Getting practical, industry experience was a big factor in where Chris chose to go to university. While studying, not only has he studied and volunteered around the world, but he went on a year-long industry placement with one of the biggest toy manufacturers in the world.
Jaspreet Singh
Business and Human Resource Management - BA (Hons)
Jaspreet never thought he would ever get the chance to study in the UK, coming from a small village in the Punjab. However, since joining, Jaspreet has taken any and every opportunity he can, and worked to tackle discrimination in the city, even winning a Lord Mayor’s Award in 2018.
Mary Okyere
Accountancy - BA (Hons)
Mary was initially rejected from her firm university choice and decided her insurance choice wasn’t for her. Having originally turned down her offer from BCU, she joined the university through Clearing and began her journey into a career in Accounting.
