Want to top up your business degree? Our BA (Hons) Business Administration (Top-Up) course allows you learn administration skills from industry experienced lecturers.
This flexible and wide-ranging course allows you to tailor your studies to your interests, from eBusiness, to Continuous Innovation. With a number of options to choose from, you’ll be able to follow a path that will lead to your future career, with previous students progressing into roles with high-profile businesses such as N Power and Zurich. The international focus of the course is derived through a variety of means including the student body, the teaching team and the use of international teaching materials.
Our Business Administration (Top up) course gives you the chance to broaden your knowledge of general business administration within the global business environment. We’ll teach you to apply your knowledge to real business scenarios, helping you to progress into employment, having already dealt with many situations you find in the working world.
This course covers a whole range of areas of business administration and management, with at least 5 modules for you to choose. You’ll study full-time for a year to suit your needs, and you’ll also be given attentive student support.
Working with other students from across Birmingham City Business School, you’ll develop and demonstrate your ability to collaborate, while other projects will require you to work alone and develop your independent learning skills. You’ll be put into a range of exciting and innovative scenarios, strengthening your expertise and learning from different cultures and experiences.
You’ll work on a range of innovative and practical projects, including business reports, case studies, presentations and projects, all of which will help you to apply your knowledge to real businesses and real situations.
Our staff will help to support and tailor your learning with expert industry knowledge and experience. They’re researchers, authors and titans of industry who’ll share their own practical and academic experience and expertise.

There are no compulsory additional costs or charges associated with studying on this course. While you may choose to purchase personal copies of text books, all our key text books are available from our library or online (subject to normal library loan and online access arrangements).
Based on the past experience of our students, you might find it helpful to set aside about £50 for each year of your studies for your personal stationery and study materials. All our students are provided with 100 free pages of printing each year to a maximum total value of £15.

Assessment is largely by coursework, with some conventional written exams and practical exams. Coursework is always industry-relevant, such as business reports, case studies, individual and group presentations, portfolios and projects.
Many of our modules involve group evaluations, presentations, reports and business plans with the aim of developing a range of skills such as working in a team, problem solving and analysing data. As skills that are valued by employers, these activities will be beneficial in helping you to secure a job after graduation.
Seminars, workshops and self-directed study enable you to further explore the knowledge gained in lectures and apply concepts to real-world business case studies. You’ll also learn to analyse, evaluate and judge situations in business.
Many of our students continue their studies with us and take a postgraduate qualification.
You can study a range of courses from an MBA to an Executive MBA. You could also study MSc Management and Marketing and MBA International Business. Whatever you’d like to apply for, we’re happy to help you decide what route is best for you.

Our unique programme gives you the chance to develop valuable skills outside of the more formal classroom learning. We award points for Graduate+ activities (including firewalking!) and these can be put towards a final Graduate+ award.
What students find great about the Business Administration (Top-Up) is that it allows you to tailor your skills and knowledge to the industries and roles you’re interested in.
One graduate recently became an International Marketing Executive at N Power, while another became a project analyst at Zurich. Others have gone on to work for companies such as Lloyds TSB, Home Serve and Masteel UK Ltd. The roles you can go into are diverse and include sales executive, marketing and social media strategists and marketing assistants.

BCUIC is part of the global Navitas Group, an internationally recognised education provider, and the partnership allows students to access the University’s facilities and services and move seamlessly through to achieving a Bachelor’s degree from Birmingham City University.
We are constantly investing in our estate and are currently in the process of spending £340 million on new learning facilities.
This course is based at our City Centre Campus – and specifically The Curzon Building, alongside other Social Sciences, Law, Business and English students.
The £63m building offers students a unique social learning space, including a dedicated student hub incorporating student support services, in the heart of Birmingham’s Eastside development.
The Business floors house an extensive number of IT facilities, breakout areas, and specialised rooms. The Marketing Link Agency is designed to replicate a modern marketing firm, allowing students to get real-life experience of working in the marketing sector. There is also the City Trading Room, which features state of the art stock market tracking equipment, keeping you up to date with all the financial comings and goings of the London Stock Exchange and Wall Street.
The Curzon building is also conveniently close to Birmingham’s business and financial centre, allowing for strong links between your studies and the real world.
