We're really excited to welcome the first students onto our brand new Event, Venue and Experience Management course in September!
As one of our applicants, we wanted to welcome you to Birmingham City Business School, and fill you in with all the details you'll need ahead of your next exciting adventure with us.
So on this page, you'll find details about what you'll be getting on your first day, a few social media channels worth following before you get here, and a direct line to your course leader Richard Oddy for any burning questions you may have.
But first, watch the video below to get an overview of the excellent course you'll be starting in just a few weeks' time.
Ask your Course Leader
Our Event, Venue and Experience Management course was co-created by Richard Oddy. Before coming to Birmingham City University, he worked in a variety of companies, including the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, Golf England, Barnardo's and Macmillan.
If you have any questions about the course that you would like clarifying before you get here, Richard is on hand to clear up any worries you may have. You can contact him directly on his email, Richard.Oddy@bcu.ac.uk.
Richard, alongside fellow course co-creator Professor Chris Edger, has been compiling the event manager’s new bible, “Events Management: 87 Key Models for Event, Venue and Experience (EVE) Managers”.
The book explores every aspect of how to become a successful event manager, incorporating the 6 key "Es" of event management:
- Explore industry and market
- Engineer concept and experience
- Engage team and customers
- Execute concept and plan
- Evaluate impact and experience
- Evolve offer and operations
The book is available on Amazon now, but don't rush out to buy it - every Event, Venue and Experience Management first year student will be getting a free copy when they enrol in September, and you will be among the first students in the country to use it on your course.
Want to start exploring the world of Event Management before you arrive here? We've selected three social media accounts dedicated to the sector, who all produce high-quality articles, blogs and videos about the world of event management.
Give them a follow, and start getting ahead of the game!
