Overview

Skills Bootcamps are intensive short-term training courses that provide you with an invaluable opportunity to gain sought-after sector-specific skills.

This Skills Bootcamp will provide you with new skills, knowledge and a complete understanding of climate literacy, all highly valued assets in the Net-Zero era. Skills Bootcamps are part of the government’s Lifetime Skills Guarantee to help everyone gain skills for life. 

This course is open to International students.

What's covered in this course?

The UK government is committed to decarbonise and become net-zero by 2050. This means there is an urgent need across all industry sectors for employees with an understanding of sustainable strategies and how to apply them in real work contexts. With the rapid shift required to meet the zero-carbon agenda, professionals with the requisite skills, knowledge and climate literacy are highly valued by employers.

The course will provide solid grounding in the central tenets of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals including:

  • Climate literacy
  • Creating sustainable cities and communities
  • Circular economy principles and sustainable materials
  • Building and infrastructure re-use and retrofit
  • Design for biodiversity
  • Health green spaces
  • Social and environmental justice
  • Tools for systems thinking
  • Leading sustainable change

The course has been designed by leading academics, delivering a theory-based series of eight day-long sessions, spread over 10 weeks.

You will attend seminars and presentations delivered by renowned experts at the Birmingham City University campus. There will be guided learning to help you apply the latest strategies, information and processes in order to develop an environmental and sustainable plan applicable to your own working environment. 

Please note that use of a laptop will be required.

Fees & How to Apply

The University reserves the right to increase fees in line with inflation based on the Retail Prices Index or to reflect changes in Government funding policies or changes agreed by Parliament up to a maximum of five per cent.

Essential Entry Requirements

  • Meet the Department for Education's Skills for Life eligibility requirements
  • GCSE English language and mathematics at grade C / 4 or above
  • Equivalent level 2 or above qualifications can be accepted
  • Must have been achieved at the point of enrolment

Course Fees:

This Skills Bootcamp is free for self-referring individuals to apply and study. Employers who wish to upskill their personnel using the Skills Bootcamp programme will only be charged between 10% and 30% of the training costs (dependent on business size.) Our Facilities

You will be based in our multi-million pound Parkside building – a state of the art facility located within our City Centre Campus. Here you will have full access to our recently upgraded, high spec CAD (Computer-Aided-Design) workstations situated within our dedicated computer labs and open access areas. We also provide access to leading edge digital design software, enabling you to explore technical drawing, graphics, 3D modelling, visualization, animation, computation, simulation, and virtual reality.

The Parkside Building is also home to our digital fabrication labs, where you will be able to explore 3D printing, laser cutting, water-jet cutting, CNC machining, ceramics, glass and traditional model-making, guided by our team of expert technicians with access to our on-site material store, and professional printing facilities.
