Ethan’s main role is Course Director for BCU’s in-house PGCert in HE for newly appointed staff. Prior to undertaking this role he taught on the MEd and a number of SEDA and HEA accredited courses for staff run by EDS.

Originally a literature and arts graduate, he worked for many years in academic skills support, with a particular focus on developing skills of critical analysis and creative thinking for undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Alongside his PGCert role, as part of EDS’s Academic Practice team, Ethan supports staff in all things learning, teaching and assessment related.

He has a particular interest in student centred and humanist approaches to education, inclusivity, social, cultural and emotional capital in education and in strategies to facilitate growth of students’ self-efficacy and empowerment.

Ethan holds both a BA (Hons) & MEd, is a Fellow of the HEA and is (somewhat warily it must be said) exploring options for doctorate study because he “believes in practicing what he preaches”.
