Level Up team
I’m Ellie/Eleanor your Student Success Adviser for Visual Communication. I started out at Birmingham City University as a student on the Visual Communication course, studying Illustration. During my degree, I enjoyed printmaking, experimenting and drawing from life. As a student at BCU I gained experience as both a mentor and ambassador, which sparked my interest of working in higher education.
As a Student Success Adviser, I will be available to offer guidance to ensure that you have the opportunity to complete your degree to the best of your ability. The range of available support includes everything from advising on financial hardship, mental health support, essay writing skills, internal employment opportunities, fulfilling your academic potential and connecting with students on other courses to promote your creative and critical work.
If you have any academic or personal concerns, please don’t hesitate to get in touch and we can arrange a good time for a chat!
Level Up Mentors
I’m a local illustration student from Sutton Coldfield. I’ve been studying Visual Communication, Illustration since September 2016. As I started studying at Birmingham City University, I received help settling into University life, this made a massive difference to me and allowed me to have a positive start, from the help I received initially and throughout my time at University. I have autism, but with the help I received from both staff and other students, I have learnt and developed my skills as an illustrator, which has helped me identify who I am. I am still learning and I will still keep learning new skills for my future. I can’t wait to start helping people who will be settling in to BCU and give them the same positive start at University.
I am a hard-working individual with a friendly and loyal personality, who enjoys interacting with diverse groups of people. I have strong listening and communication skills due to my passions in Art, Music, and Drama which therefore makes me a dedicated team player. I’m aspiring to a future in graphic design, developing an illustrative style and knowledge about the use of typography as a tool for communication. I hope to inspire others with my knowledge and experience of university life and aim to be a friendly face around the university.
Hi! I’m Isabel, a Level up Mentor, one of the School Representatives for Viscom and a third year Film & Animation Student. I moved to Birmingham in 2016 and during my first two years I’ve really loved getting involved within the school and becoming a part of the BCU community. I’m excited to be a mentor for incoming students, as I remember how scary it is to transition into a new environment, especially if you’re away from home for the first time. In my spare time I’m an avid crocheter and enjoy binge watching The Great British Bake Off.
Every student at the School is allocated a personal tutor during the first few weeks at University. The personal tutor will be a member of your teaching team who can be approached for personal and professional advice during your time at Birmingham City University. Timetabled one-to-ones with them are integrated into every term and, of course, you are more than welcome to approach any of the team if you have a question or worries. If you are unsure who your personal tutor is please speak to your lead tutor.
