Games Jam is a games event that gathers game development enthusiasts to create games within a short period of time. Students work in small teams to brainstorm, design, and build games based on a central theme revealed at the start of the jam. Game Technology student explains more about the Games Jam and why it's great to get involved.
Why is it important for students to take part in events like Games Jam?
I’d say that the greatest benefits lie in building your portfolio and getting real experience of working in teams making games within a relatively short time frame. You put yourself out there quite a lot if you do end up winning the event and still practice soft skills that would be applied in the industry.

What skills did you gain from this event?
I got to practice my teamwork, and was introduced to C# programming during the event. It was my first real glimpse into the world of game programming, and it helped me practise my coding, creative problem solving, and overall computer skills.
Would you recommend that other students participate in future Games Jams?
I would! While it may be a little scary at the start, it is a great way to gain experience and test yourself. You get to make something creative and fun to show your skills, while also benefitting from the feedback that you might receive during the event to keep improving yourself and that idea that you used during the event.
