There's plenty you'll need to balance whilst you are at university - from eating right to exercising, to socialising and staying on top of your work. Our student Jamie shares his experience and advice on how you can stay healthy and look after yourself in this video.
1) Plan out your work
What does Jamie do to ensure he stays on top of being organised? Planning out his tasks on a great big whiteboard is what he does. This will get things out of your mind in a place where you can clearly see what you need to work through.
2) Start your work early
With tons of stuff going on at uni, there is always going to be a temptation to to leave working on your assignments until the final week. Don't do this! Putting things off will only lead to you getting stressed over the work you need to complete and that is not an effective way to study. You need to allow yourself plenty of time in advance for studying for assignments - keep an eye on the time to make sure you're not going to bed two hours before you are due in a lecture!
3) Look after your body
Keeping yourself relatively fit while you are at uni is key to your wellbeing and generally feeling pretty good about things. You don't need to treat your fitness like you are training for a triathlon, simple steps to keeping healthy are absolutely fine and you are much more likely to stick to a plan.
You don't have to starve yourself and spend half of your monthly budget on a gym membership either, there are things that you can do at home. Try some yoga perhaps? Jamie also recommends keeping yourself hydrated, not much more than a couple of litres of water a day should do it.
4) Get outside
Go take a stroll and get yourself a bit of nature. Jamie reliably informs us that doing this is "scientifically proven to help your mental wellbeing". Even living in the city, you're never far from somewhere calm and peaceful where you can take yourself off to and get your head together. It's also generally, a most pleasant thing to do!
5) Chill!
Take a break, have some time out and relax. You will have come to into university to study, but don't forget that you're also here to enjoy yourself! Catch up with some friends, watch a bit of Netflix or just do nothing! You know yourself better than anyone, so when you've not got your head in the books, just do what you like to do. You could even join Jamie in having a nice strong mug of tea!
