Health Professions interview guidance

Before your interview

Interviews will be conducted via Microsoft Teams. You will need to select a time slot through your applicant portal.

If you are no longer able to attend, please cancel your interview slot via your applicant portal, even if you have rebooked through the portal. Failure to notify us may result in you not being offered another interview opportunity.

Preparing for your interview

Observe the world around you

What stories and events are affecting contemporary health and social care or sports therapy? What’s your opinion on the latest news?

Research and understand the role

Could you meet the expectations? Use this exercise as a chance to reflect on your own character. Remember this might not be a career with regular hours!

Healthcare students: Research the NHS values

These values underpin the key attributes of all healthcare professionals. Make a list of your qualifying personal qualities and think about how you can demonstrate Teamwork, Care and Dedication. Read the NHS constitution

Hands on experience

Nothing beats exposure to a real healthcare or therapy environment.

Plan some questions

Remember this is your chance to find out about us too – so talk to us. Current students sometimes help out with interview sessions so there will be people on hand to give you the inside scoop!

What are you going to wear?

Try to dress smartly. We want to see that you appreciate and respect that you’ll have to adhere to a dress code both on placement and once you enter the workplace as a qualified professional.

Technical requirements

To access your interview, you must have Microsoft Teams installed on your device. You must also create and activate a Microsoft account before your interviewDownload Microsoft Teams for free.

We strongly recommend downloading the app in advance on your computer or tablet, as some devices and browsers may not support full functionality and this may impact your interview experience. Please also ensure your screen size is large enough to read text comfortably. Having a pen and paper nearby may also be useful for making notes.

You will need a forward-facing camera to allow us to complete photo identification, as well as good audio quality to ensure clear communication. Please use your personal email address rather than your school or college account, as the latter may have restrictions that prevent full use of your camera.

Please join the meeting at least 15 minutes before your scheduled time to allow us to verify your personal identification before the interview starts.

Documents required for interview

Please ensure you have the following documents with you for your interview:

You must present valid photo ID.

Type of I.D accepted:

  • Passport
  • Photo-card of driving licence.
  • School/college photo I.D

Your ID will be checked before the interview begins to confirm your identity. If we are unable to verify your identification, the interview will not proceed.

Proof of name change (if applicable)
If the name on your photo ID does not match the name on your application, you must also provide official documentation confirming the change, such as a marriage certificate or deed poll.

What to expect

  • Your interview will be conducted by up to two members of staff and may include clinical practice colleagues.

  • You’ll have the opportunity to ask any questions about the course or university experience.

  • You will need to participate in two activities: a group task and an individual presentation, to a group of your peers and interviewing staff. Details of these tasks are available in the Interview Handbook. This is made available on your applicant portal once you have been invited to interview. It is also available for download below.
