Welcome to the Department of Psychology's Research Participation Scheme (RPS).

The Department of Psychology at Birmingham City University is a research active department and our research depends on volunteers just like you. This research would not be possible without the people who volunteer to take part in it.

By taking part in our research you contribute to some of the innovative and ground-breaking projects conducted at Birmingham City University and can help to make a positive impact.

Some of our studies are conducted online, while others would require you to visit one of our dedicated laboratories located at the Curzon building, 4 Cardigan Street, Birmingham, B4 7BD.

Research conducted at the Department of Psychology explores a wide variety of topics such as perception and learning, mindfulness, self-compassion, eating disorders, personality and food tasting, decision making, lexical processing, intimate relationships, victims and perpetrators of crime, and memory.

Eligibility: To participate in our studies, you must be 18 years of age or above. Each research project might have additional eligibility criteria, and these will be made clear in the description of each project.

Reimbursement: Some studies will reimburse you for your time and your travel expenses, while others will offer you the opportunity to enter a prize draw. Some studies may not offer any payment.

Ethics and Privacy: All research projects conducted at the Department of Psychology at BCU have received ethical approval and are conducted according to the British Psychological Society’s Code of Human Research Ethics.

Any information that you provide during participation is kept strictly confidential and stored in line with the Data Protection Act 2018 and the General Data Protection Regulation. Any personal data you provide during registration will not be shared with any third parties.
