Hear from Panagiotis Rentzelas, Associate Professor in Psychology and Director of International Recruitment and Development at Birmingham City School of Social Sciences, as he gives an insight into what you can achieve whilst studying with us.

What does the School of Social Sciences at BCU have to offer?

“Our vision as a school is practical – our teaching and research influences society positively. At our School of Social Sciences, we give you the skills to make a difference in the world. Our courses focus on the real world application of theory, ensuring that you can make a real impact on society after you graduate.”

What qualities make the School of Social Sciences different and unique?

“We are proud of our teaching innovation, and many of our courses within the School of Social Sciences are professionally accredited by the relevant body in the sector.

Not only will you be taught by experts in your chosen field, but you will be part of a vibrant and inclusive academic community.

We offer all our undergraduate students the opportunity to complete a year-long professional placement as part of their studies. Past placement destinations have included organisations ranging from the NHS and West Midlands Police to local schools and youth mentoring services. In addition, the School runs an internship programme with Birmingham City Council which gives you the chance to work with senior staff on critical projects.

You will also have the opportunity to get involved as a volunteer researcher on a community project.

On top of all this, the School has recently embarked on its ambitious ‘Birmingham 2029’ project which will see the city of Birmingham mapped out to generate a big picture of life over the course of the 2020s, creating – in the process - plenty of new and exciting activities for our students to get involved in.

We hope to welcome you to our School of Social Sciences soon!”
