Birmingham City University was one of the first new universities to recognise the academic importance of criminal justice, and remains at the cutting edge of innovation in this area.

Our range of undergraduate and postgraduate criminology and criminal justice courses have had a solid reputation since the 1980's. Courses are delivered by expert staff in the fields of policing, crime and criminology within the School of Social Sciences.

We also offer our students the opportunity to combine their studies of these subject areas with sociology, policing and investigation and security studies.

Our courses are highly regarded by students.
In the latest National Student Survey, criminology received an overall satisfaction rating of 84 per cent.

World leading research

Our pioneering research within Social Work and Social Policy Administration has been recognised internationally, while our specialist Centre for Applied Criminology (CAC) is designated as a research centre of excellence and was founded by Professor David Wilson, one of Britain's leading criminologists.
