University welcomes new Head of School of Law

Birmingham City University is pleased to welcome Dr Sue Rivers as the new Head of the School of Law.

Sue, a Barrister and Chartered Surveyor, is an experienced leader, senior manager and innovator in the higher education and not for profit sectors; her previous posts include Acting Dean at the School of Lifelong Learning at Coventry University and Associate Dean of Learning and Teaching at BPP University.

After studying law at the University of Liverpool, Sue qualified as a Barrister in 1981, working in practice for several years before going into teaching. She went on to qualify as a Chartered Surveyor in 1997, continuing to work in a number of higher education institutions and obtaining a Doctorate in Education and a Master of Business Administration.

Sue is a champion for student engagement and employability, with particular expertise in innovative learning and teaching, including technology enhanced learning.

On joining the University Sue said: “I am delighted to be joining Birmingham City University as Head of the School of Law. The School’s commitment to engaging its students and preparing them for professional practice and other careers through its high quality teaching and research, is critical in this highly competitive and fast changing environment. I am excited by the opportunity to make a real difference to students and staff and to contribute to realising the University’s strategic goals.”
