Hot from the National News Rooms, straight into the Clearing Open Day

University News Last updated 17 August 2012

Two of the media's most trusted experts will be sharing their views and offering guidance to prospective students; at Birmingham City University’s Open Day.

Professor David Wilson, Director for the Centre for Applied Criminology, and Professor Craig Jackson, Head of Psychology, have both shared their expertise with the national media in recent days.

Professor Wilson, who recently fronted the popular Channel 5 programme Killers Behind Bars, has appeared on ITV’s Day Break, Sky News and ITN News; talking about the breaking news story on the Moors murderer Ian Brady. While Professor Craig Jackson, has appeared on BBC national news to comment on the highly emotive story relating to an individual’s right to die. Visitors to BCU this weekend, Saturday 18 August, will have a rare chance to speak to both these professors and quiz them on their knowledge and ask advice on studying real-life subjects at BCU.

Prof Jackson said: "We are both looking forward to the Open Day, because we recognise that this is one of the most important parts of our jobs as academics - to meet prospective students and to inspire them about the subject areas we are passionate about.”

Anxious students who are looking to start a University course this September are being urged not to panic and to ‘keep calm and carry on to Clearing’ by Birmingham City University. A team of specially trained staff will be on hand from 8am this Thursday (16th August) to guide students through their options once they receive their A Level results. The Birmingham City University Clearing Hotline will be staffed from 8am to 8pm on Thursday 16th August, and on Friday 17th August with reduced opening hours at the weekend.

The University will also be holding a dedicated Clearing Open Day on Saturday 18th August from 10am-2pm for which there is no need to register. For more information about this, visit http://www.bcu.ac.uk/student-info/open-days
