Building Information Modeling Conference to help realise creative visions with cutting-edge tools

Birmingham City University is hosting an event by the Association of Architectural Educators (AAE) and Vectorworks, supported by Computers Unlimited.

Attendees will have the opportunity to use cutting-edge Building Information Modeling (BIM) tools to help realise their creative vision. It takes place on Wednesday 27 January between 12:30-17:00 at Lecture Hall C087 in the brand new state-of-the-art Curzon Building.

This is one of many free events that the AAE will host in this area. It is aimed at students, staff and practitioners in the fields of architecture, interior design, landscape and many more with the aim of such events being to bring together students and people from industry in order to network, share ideas and practice. Victoria Farrow, Programme Director BA (Hons) Architecture and coordinator of the event said:

About the event

As both a teaching and learning event, the day will support the collaboration of professionals and students, providing the ideal environment for new working relationships. Over 150 students from a range of different courses within the school of architecture and design will attend the event to mix with local practices and industry specialists.

This unique event gives attendees the opportunity to earn Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Continual Professional Development points and starts with a RIBA Certified seminar, which defines BIM, how an architect starts to use it, the integration process and determines the right levels to implement in projects.

The framework of the project has been set within the context of the RIBA Plan of Work, British Standards (especially BS & PAS1192), Levels of Detail and BIM protocols, including Business Execution Plan (BEP), Employee Information Requirements (EIR) and the Government Level 2 BIM Mandate (including COBie).

The project consists of two parts: the first one will concentrate on the site model, whilst the second one will demonstrate the architectural aspects.
