Psychology Interview Guidance
Preparing for your interview
Observe the world around you
What stories and events are affecting contemporary psychology? What’s your opinion on the latest news?
Research and understand the role
Could you meet the expectations? Use this exercise as a chance to reflect on your own character. Remember this might not be a career with regular hours!
Plan some questions
Remember this is your chance to find out about us too – so talk to us. Current students sometimes help out with interview sessions so there will be people on hand to give you the inside scoop!
What are you going to wear?
Try to dress smartly. We want to see that you appreciate and respect that you’ll have to adhere to a dress code both on placement and once you enter the workplace as a qualified professional.
MSc Forensic Psychology
Preparation
You should be prepared to discuss how your relevant experience can assist you with the course in respect of transferable knowledge and skills – and also explore your understanding of research methods and statistics based on what you were taught as part of your undergraduate degree. Plus your research project, how this was undertaken, outcomes, and what you learnt. You don't need any equipment.
Format
Your interview will be online via Microsoft Teams and there will be two interviewers. The first part of the interview provides information on the course – modules, assessment methods, course tutors and your interests. This stage of the interview will explore your interest in the course and any relevant experience/transferable knowledge or skills. The second part of the interview explores research methods and statistics and indicates what is required at Level 7.
Things to remember
The purpose of the interview is to provide knowledge of the course, discuss course content, confirm suitability for the course, discuss study options (FT/PT), and ensure preparedness for the course. It also ensures that you can ask any questions you have about the course. Previous students have told us they found the interview process useful in understanding the demands of the course. The best prepared candidates are able to discuss their dissertation and the research methods content of their undergraduate degree. This can require some preparation, particularly if you have had a break in your studies.
