MSc Safeguarding 2016 - 2017
Helena McGookin previously worked for the NHS in Safeguarding, but wanted to enhance her knowledge on the subject. She came to study at Birmingham City University as we were one of the only universities in the West Midlands to offer the course.
Why did you choose to study at Birmingham City University?
I chose to study at Birmingham City University as it’s quite local to me and it has a great reputation. It also helped that they were one of the only universities in the west midlands that were offering the course that I wanted to study.
What attracted you to your course?
I currently work in Safeguarding and I wanted to build on and consolidate my knowledge of the subject. The core modules and the Leadership module have been fascinating and I really enjoy learning more about this subject.
What did you like about the university and your faculty?
Birmingham City University is local to me so that’s really handy, and the faculty has a variety of well-educated staff members who work tirelessly in helping your during your course.
Did your qualification help to get you where you are today?
Since starting this course, I have started a brand new job in Safeguarding and I do believe that this course greatly assisted me in obtaining the position. Working for the NHS has been great too as they’re really supportive of my studies.
What are your plans for the future?
I plan to continue working in Safeguarding as this is a real passion of mine. I may consider undertaking a PhD in the future too!
