Operating department practice
Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs) are health care professionals who, on qualification, are eligible to apply for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council.
They work in teams including surgeons and anaesthetists in carrying out intricate and complex clinical procedures, and work alongside health care colleagues in order to provide a high standard of patient focused care throughout the patient's perioperative journey.
Our ODP courses is designed to help students gain the most from their studies, and teaching is tailored to the needs of the individual.
Teaching methods include structured lectures, placements and the development of practical skills through state-of-the-art facilities such as a mock theatre and plaster room.
ODP students will learn a number of essential skills, including:
- Working as part of a team
- Managing your clinical workload
- Effective communication
- Adapting to different practice settings.
We offer two levels of courses in two locations:
BCU City South Campus
South West Campus
Our South West courses start in January each year, and you will study at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.
