Sinead Joyce was born in Birmingham gaining her BA Honours in Early Childhood Studies in 2008 and her Masters of Higher Education in Teaching and Learning in 2015 with Birmingham City University.

Sinead is a Senior Fellow accredited by the AHA and is continuing to develop her research interests regarding Professional Identity and Practices within an Interdisciplinary Degree working with children, young people and families. Sinead has worked in statutory and private Early Years settings as an Early Years Practitioner and Deputy Manager for over 10 years as well as carrying out co-ordination roles for Special Educational Needs Provision and the Behaviour Intervention Framework.

Sinead moved into Further Education with one of the biggest providers in the West Midlands. Originally supporting Early Years students with their placements then moving into teaching Early Years Level 1 – 3. On completion of her BA Honours in Early Childhood Studies Sinead moved into Teaching within Higher Education and became Programme Lead for the Higher National Diploma in Working with Children, Young People and Families and Course leader for Year 1 of the Foundation Degree in Early Years all within the same Higher Education Institute – South and City College Birmingham.

Sinead developed her research interests via student partnerships projects including Peer Mentoring and Professional Practice with a focus on the implications of its assessment in conjunction with the AOC (Association of Colleges). Sinead moved to Birmingham City University in 2017 and became Programme Lead for BA Hons Working with Children, Young People and Families. Sinead is currently carrying out her Education Doctorate with a current title; Professional before Profession? A study of student’s professional expectations and engagement within an Interdisciplinary (Education, Health and Social) Degree – Working with Children, Young People and Families

Sinead teaches on all years of the BA Honours Working with Children, Young People and Families focusing on Professional Development and Research.
