Certification of Competence in Administering Intravenous Injections for Radiographers – College of Radiographers (CoR) Accredited

This College of Radiographers (CoR) accredited course addresses the key theoretical components of intravenous injections under the supervision of an experience trainer (with a practical session on face-to-face course days) over a six-month period with an initial one day of contact at the university.

The course addresses the key theoretical components essential to the administering of intravenous injections and practical sessions under the supervision of an experienced trainer and is delivered over a six month period with an initial one day of contact at the university. This is then followed by clinical practice within the radiographers’ department whereby practical requirements are undertaken. Here they will complete a clinical log book under the supervision of a named mentor/supervisor. The written examination and completion of the clinical log book must be completed within the six month period. 

The course is available to all practising radiographers (both diagnostic and therapeutic) who are HCPC registered. Applicants are required submit evidence of approval for clinical practice and supervision from their line manager/clinical director and a named supervisor at application.  

This course is designed to enable practitioners to gain accreditation for intravenous injection skills and to be able to practice safely within a written scheme of work. The course addresses the key theoretical components essential to the administering of intravenous injections and practical sessions under the supervision of an experienced trainer. 

Assessment

Students are given a formal logbook and are required to carry out 5 assisted/demonstrated injections, 10 supervised/minor assistance injections and 20 supervised injections with no assistance.

Following the completion of the logbook you will then be required to complete a written assessment of the theoretical component of the course (within 6 months of the study day).

You will receive a certificate from the College of Radiographers.
