What does BCU’s BBC partnership mean for you?

Student speaking into microphone in a radio studio

Thinking about a career in media, broadcasting or journalism? You probably want to know how university will help you get there. What will you learn? Who will you meet? And how will you get experience before you graduate?

BCU’s new 10-year partnership with the BBC will give you opportunities to learn from media professionals through workshops, masterclasses, shadowing and live industry briefs.

Learn from people working in the industry

Knowing what a job involves can help you decide if it’s right for you.

Through the partnership, the BBC will contribute to teaching through workshops, lectures, masterclasses, shadowing opportunities and live industry briefs. These experiences will give you insight into how media professionals work and the skills they use. It’s a chance to ask questions, explore different roles and understand how what you’re learning connects to a future career.

Put your ideas into practice

How do you turn an idea into something an audience wants to watch, read or listen to? Working on live industry briefs will give you opportunities to apply your learning to challenges set by professionals. You’ll get a closer understanding of industry expectations while developing your own approach to creating work.

Study in a space designed for media

The partnership includes plans for a centre for creative skills and learning at the Tea Factory in Digbeth, the BBC’s new Midlands headquarters. Subject to final planning and landlord approvals, BCU will create teaching spaces and workshops built to BBC specifications. The planned facilities will support learning that reflects current industry equipment and working practices.

Find your place in Media and Journalism

Media and Journalism careers cover much more than presenting or being behind a camera. The partnership will support undergraduate and postgraduate study across journalism, production, content creation and broadcast technology. If you enjoy telling stories, making content or understanding the technology behind a broadcast, there are different routes to explore.
