About Us

Our Faculty of Arts, Design and Media encompasses a number of creative subjects, including Architecture, Art and Design, English, Fashion, Film, Jewellery and Media.

It spans a range of buildings and campuses, including the School of Jewellery, located in Birmingham’s famous Jewellery Quarter, and the School of Art, a Grade I listed building in the heart of the city. Our City Centre Campus also houses a range of industry-standard facilities, including TV studios, a dedicated Media Centre, and specialist music performance and rehearsal spaces.

The faculty is internationally renowned for creative education with a history dating back to 1843. Our links with industry include Rolex, Swatch, Saatchi and Saatchi, Goldsmith, the BBC, Cheltenham Festival, The Brits, Axis Design Architects Ltd, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe and SEGA. Our staff are active researchers and the quality and impact of their work was highly rated in the recent Research Excellence Framework 2021. Our English Department was one of only three in the country to have 100% of its impact judged as outstanding in reach and significance. Our research projects include Check Global, The Language of DIY Justice, Eastside Projects, Disability Under Siege, Meme India, Surrealism in the People’s Republic of China and E-Bollywood.
