Todd Fletcher is a PhD candidate in cyberpsychology in the Department of Psychology and Counselling at Birmingham City University, where he carries out his research under the supervision of Dr Chris Fullwood, Dr Amy Grubb, and Dr. Pelham Carter. His doctoral work examines the psychology of cybersecurity professionals, a population that attracts considerable attention as a source of organisational resilience but comparatively little study as a psychological subject. His thesis follows a three-study design.

The first is a systematic literature review of the psychological and organisational determinants of secure behaviour among cybersecurity professionals, currently under review at the Journal of Cybersecurity. The second applies Q-methodology to map how practitioners themselves explain why security programmes fail, identifying five distinct attribution viewpoints along with their associated psychological and demographic variables. The third develops and validates a Cybersecurity Program Attribution Scale, an instrument designed to make these attribution patterns measurable. Alongside his doctoral studies, Todd works as an AI Services Technical Lead within Strategic Advisory Services at CrowdStrike, where he leads internal AI programme development and assists organisations globally maturity security programs. He holds an active CISSP certification.

This dual position allows his research questions to emerge from practitioner experience rather than from the literature alone, and it gives his findings a direct route back into professional practice. He also writes and speaks for audiences beyond the academic through, arguing for anthrogenic cybersecurity as a distinct discipline, one that treats human psychology as the primary terrain of security rather than a residual risk factor to be managed. His wider interests include human factors in security operations, professional identity, and the psychological consequences of working in high-consequence technical roles.

Todd has worked in technology for close to thirty years. He began in engineering design automation at Marlow Industries in 1996, writing scripting tools that streamlined design-to-production workflows, and later spent close to a decade as Software and Digital Media Development Lead at Creative Designer Lines, where he produced technical training media, architected an online training platform, and carried responsibility for secure coding and PCI-DSS compliance in commercial transaction handling.

He moved into network and systems engineering with Silver Star Communications in 2015, working on firewall deployments, secure remote access, and hospital network architecture.

In 2016 he became Information Technology Manager for Teton County, Wyoming, rebuilding the department from the ground up, overhauling intrusion detection, developing systems resiliency planning against ISO 27000 and the NIST SP 800 series, and holding compliance responsibility across PCI-DSS, SOX, HIPAA, and GLBA.

A subsequent move to Missouri Employers Mutual as IT Security Engineer concentrated his work on security operations, covering SIEM and SOAR engineering, vulnerability management, penetration testing, digital forensics, and cloud security.

He joined CrowdStrike in December 2021 and has progressed from Senior Consultant to Principal Consultant and, since February 2026, to AI Services Technical Lead within Strategic Advisory Services. He builds internal agentic applications supporting multiple security work streams, advises on AI engineering and its integration into security teams, and acts as liaison to the Enterprise AI team. His consulting work has helped information security teams across many sectors assess their security posture and close gaps in ways that satisfy technical and executive audiences alike.

This trajectory, running from hands-on engineering through security operations to strategic advisory work, gives his doctoral research direct access to the professional population it studies and a route for translating findings back into practice.
