Emma is a Teaching Fellow in the Department of Adult Nursing at Birmingham City University, where at present, she teaches first and second year student nurses on BSc/Msci Nursing Degree Course. She is part of two module teams at present; NUR4033, Providing and Evaluating Care and NUR5078: Complex Care 1 Assessing and Planning and supports other skills and simulation activities throughout the course with an interest in resuscitation.

Emma comes to BCU from a Practice Development Team role within an acute and community trust with 5 years’ experience of supporting post-registration learners in practice including internationally educated nurses and preceptees. Prior to this, Emma’s clinical experience started in 2012 when she qualified as an RN from Coventry University. Over 9+ years, Emma has worked in older adult care, cardiology and critical care. With a variety of experiences, Emma feels very passionate about high standards of physical and emotional patient care and experience, including compassionate, personalised, holistic care.

In 2020, Emma completed her Post-Grad Certificate Professional Practice - Cardiac Care at BCU and has experience in cardiac care across a variety of settings, caring for a variety of acute and long-term conditions. She has a real interest in heart failure and ECG recognition.

Alongside this, Emma has skills in recognising and managing a deteriorating patient, having often worked in a fast-paced, high dependency settings. Most recently, Emma worked in the community setting focussing more on personalised care of long-term conditions and neighbourhood working.

Emma is deeply passionate about EDI, allyship and psychological safety in education and healthcare and believes in everyone’s value and contribution. She is committed to empowering and facilitating compassionate, inclusive learning environments for all. As a Practice Facilitator, Emma successfully completed the NHS Leadership Academy Mary Seacole Programme and gained experience and knowledge in compassionate, healthcare leadership.
