Leonie is a registered nurse with over 20 years of clinical experience in an elective orthopaedic hospital setting, she has developed extensive expertise across a range of perioperative roles. Throughout her career, she has worked as a scrub nurse, sister, and scrub manager, demonstrating strong leadership, clinical competence, and operational oversight within surgical services.

She has successfully completed both parts of Surgical First Assistance training, further enhancing her advanced clinical practice in the operating theatre. In addition to her clinical responsibilities, she has contributed to staff development and patient safety initiatives by teaching human factors principles across NHS hospitals, supporting multidisciplinary teams in improving communication, teamwork, and safety culture within surgical environments.

She is currently studying for a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCert HE) and is awaiting final results; this qualification further strengthens her academic and teaching practice, benefiting both the university and its students through enhanced educational delivery, learner support, and evidence-based teaching methods.
