Elizabeth Brun

Elizabeth qualified as a Social Worker in 2008. She has worked with children and families in a range of statutory settings such as family support, refugees/unaccompanied children seeking asylum, child protection, children in care and care proceedings. Elizabeth has extensive work experience of the family court and advocating for children and young people. She worked as a children’s guardian for Cafcass for 11 years representing children subject to private and public law proceedings. Elizabeth dealt with complex cases often referred to the High Court relating to intrafamilial child sexual abuse, child-trafficking, child sexual/criminal exploitation, forced marriage and alienating behaviour. Elizabeth has mentored newly qualified social workers and supervised social work students.

In 2022 Elizabeth completed her Intermediate Level in Family Therapy and Systemic Practice. This built on and developed her interest in relationship-based social work and how systems can influence and change relationships within families and communities. Elizabeth continues to be interested in ways to integrate systemic ideas and relational practice into models of child protection to consider alternative approaches to managing risk and supporting families.

Prior to training as a Social Worker, Elizabeth worked as a Sociology teacher at a university in Kyrgyzstan, Central Asia followed by English Language teaching at a Further Education college. In addition, Elizabeth worked for the Red Cross refugee resettlement services.

Elizabeth joined BCU as a social work lecturer in April 2024. Elizabeth is the module lead for the MSc Year 2 Law and Safeguarding and BSc Year 1 Core Skills for Social Work Practice 2. Elizabeth teaches across both social work courses and supports students on placement.
