Dr. Matthew Cheshire is a Lecturer in Audio Engineering in the Department of Computer Science at Birmingham City University (BCU), UK, where he leads modules in Audio Embedded Systems, Music Information Retrieval, and Live Sound Reinforcement. He received a BSc (Hons) in Sound Engineering and Production from BCU in 2013 and a PhD from the same institution in 2023. His doctorate investigated timbral analysis and recording parameter transformations of snare drums. His research interests include microphone comparison, drum recording, perceptual evaluation, and signal processing for recording applications. He has authored numerous papers presented at AES conventions and published in the Journal of the AES. He is the recipient of the AES Saul Walker Award (2019) and AES Educational Foundation John Eargle Award (2020 and 2021).
